Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how FREELY (“FREELY,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the FREELY mobile app and the website at getfreely.app (together, the “Service”). We have written it to be read, not just filed: FREELY is a social scheduling tool, and our guiding principle is to collect as little about you as possible while still helping your group find a time to meet.
For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), the data controller is Freely. If you have any questions, contact us at privacy@getfreely.app.
1. Our data-minimization commitment
We practice data minimization: we only collect personal data that is adequate, relevant, and limited to what is necessary to run the Service. We do not require a phone number, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information. Where a feature can work without identifying you, we design it that way — most notably the anonymous web RSVP flow described in Section 4.
2. Information from FREELY app users
When you create an account and use the app, we process:
- Account details — your name and email address, used to create and secure your account.
- Availability and scheduling data — the dates, events, groups, polls, and RSVPs you create so the app can find times that work for your group.
- Social graph — the friends and groups you connect with, so we can show shared availability to the people you choose.
- Device and technical data — limited information such as app version and a push-notification token (if you enable notifications), used to operate and secure the Service.
3. Legal bases for processing (GDPR Article 6)
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the core scheduling features you ask us for when you use the Service.
- Consent — for optional features such as push notifications or any calendar integration you choose to connect. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve how FREELY works, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
4. Anonymous web RSVPs (non-app guests)
FREELY lets a host share a link so friends without the app can respond to an invite. This flow is intentionally lightweight and is handled differently from app-user data:
- No account is created. A guest is not asked to sign up, and we do not ask for an email address or password.
- The host curates the guest list. When a guest responds, they select a display name the host already added, and submit a traffic-light availability (free, partial, or busy) and an optional short note. We store only those values and a basic technical record (such as the browser user-agent) for security.
- It is tied to a link, not a person. A web RSVP is associated with the shared invite, not with a persistent profile. We do not use it to build a marketing profile, and we do not cross-reference it against app accounts.
If you submitted a web RSVP and want it removed, contact the host who shared the link, or email us at privacy@getfreely.app with enough detail to locate the response.
5. How we share information
Availability you share with a group is visible to the members of that group — that is the point of the Service. Beyond that, we share personal data only with:
- Service providers (processors) who host our database and infrastructure and act on our instructions under a data-processing agreement. Our backend and authentication are provided by Supabase.
- Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose information, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
6. International data transfers
Your information may be processed in countries outside your own, including outside the European Economic Area. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, so your data continues to receive an equivalent level of protection.
7. Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. App-account data is retained while your account is active; if you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Anonymous web RSVPs are retained for the lifetime of the related invite and removed when the invite is deleted.
8. Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — to obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — to have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
- Erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — to have your personal data deleted. You can delete your account from within the app, or request deletion by emailing us.
- Restriction — to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Data portability — to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Objection — to object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@getfreely.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
9. Security
We protect your data with row-level security on our database, encryption in transit, and access controls that limit who can see what. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to respond promptly if something goes wrong.
10. Children
FREELY is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service evolves. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
12. Contact
Questions, requests, or concerns? Email privacy@getfreely.app and we will get back to you.
